
1) Can herbs interact with prescription and over the counter medicines?
Yes. It is always best to check with your medical practitioner before adding any herb or supplement to your regime.
2) What is the difference between a tea, decoction or infusion.
A tea is a combination of herbs, grasses or flowers that is steeped for five to ten minutes before serving. A decoction is primarily roots and is simmered or steeped for 20 minutes or longer in hot water. An infusion is usually made with herbs that are more volatile, including the plant leaf or flower. The herbs are simmered for 20 to 30 minutes, allowed to cool and then stored for later use.
3) What makes a tea medicinal?
The properties, preparation and your intention of the herbs used are what determines whether a tea is medicinal or simply flavorful.
4) Where can I find our more about the herbs that I want to use?
There are many sources on herbs and their use available today. Some of these will cover medicinal properties and contra indications. Web sites, books, videos are all great resources, along with medical practitioners, nutritionists, naturopaths and herbalists to name just a few places to begin your own search.
